An Advent conference from Leipzig – Weimar as a compact supporting programme
Weimar has no dedicated conference infrastructure in the Seminar Hotels Germany portfolio — yet it remains one of the most interesting destinations for an Advent conference in central Germany. The practical way in is through Leipzig: from there, Weimar is about an hour away by train, while Leipzig itself brings a wider choice of conference hotels and its own Christmas-market tradition.
Leipzig as a base for the conference and for travel
The Leipzig Christmas market runs from 24 November to 23 December 2026 around the Markt in the city centre and ranks among Germany’s largest and oldest. For companies planning an Advent conference with a direct Christmas-market connection, but unwilling to give up the capacity and connections of a larger city, Leipzig is an obvious base: good ICE links, a broad choice of conference hotels in Leipzig at every scale, and a Christmas market right in the centre.
Weimar as a day trip or a second venue
Weimar sits roughly 83 kilometres, or about an hour by train, from Leipzig. Its old town — part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Classical Weimar”, where Goethe, Schiller and later the Bauhaus movement all worked — can be covered entirely on foot. The Congress Centrum Neue Weimarhalle holds up to 400 guests across five combinable rooms. Two approaches work well: run the entire conference in Weimar, with overnight stays and the supporting programme on site, or base the group in Leipzig and treat Weimar as a day trip with a guided walk, a museum visit and a stroll through the Christmas market.
Which events benefit from the combination
Leipzig and Weimar together particularly suit:
- Conferences that want a cultural supporting programme rather than pure conference technology
- Workshops and leadership retreats for smaller groups
- Year-end events that want to combine work with Christmas-market atmosphere
And if the group is larger?
For formats well above 200 delegates, the conference hotels in Dresden — about one to one and a half hours from Leipzig by train — are worth a look too: the city’s Internationales Congress Center offers capacity for up to 6,800 people, complemented by the Dresden Striezelmarkt (25 November to 24 December 2026), one of Germany’s best-known Christmas-market formats.
Leipzig, Weimar, or both?
Leipzig offers the infrastructure and its own Christmas market; Weimar offers the cultural counterpoint in a compact format. For many groups, combining the two is the strongest solution — overnight stays and conference technology in Leipzig, the cultural programme in Weimar.
